GlossCue (“the extension” and “the service”) translates the subtitles of videos you watch on Netflix, YouTube and Prime Video. The subtitles are translated on GlossCue’s servers and shown next to the original. This policy explains what data is handled, where it goes, and what control you have over it.
Summary: you sign in with Google. The extension sends the subtitle text of the video you watch to GlossCue’s servers, which translate it with AI models. A translation depends only on the subtitle text, and every viewer of the same subtitles shares it. The service has no ads, no analytics and no tracking of the websites you visit.
Data the extension reads
On netflix.com, youtube.com, primevideo.com and the Prime Video pages of amazon.com, amazon.co.uk, amazon.de and amazon.co.jp, the extension reads:
- Subtitle files that the video player downloads (the lines of dialogue and their timing).
- Title information the player loads for the video you are watching, such as the title and episode. It is only shown in the extension’s popup and never leaves your device.
- Player state on the page, such as whether an ad is playing, whether the player’s own subtitles are on, and the current playback position, so the translation appears at the right time.
The extension does not read your streaming account details, viewing history, cookies, passwords or payment information.
Data sent to GlossCue

Translations are stored under a hash of the subtitle text and are shared by everyone who watches the same subtitles. Your account is not attached to a translation. Title, synopsis and your settings are not sent.
Service providers
- Cloudflare runs GlossCue’s servers and databases.
- Google (Gemini models on Vertex AI) translates the subtitle lines, with other AI model providers reached through OpenRouter as a fallback. They receive only the lines to translate, a few preceding lines for context, and the languages, never your account information.
- Google handles sign-in. Its privacy policy applies to your Google account.
- A payment provider (to be named here before payments open) handles checkout and billing. GlossCue never receives your card details.
Data stored on your device
The extension keeps your settings (target language, display preferences) and your GlossCue sign-in token in Chrome’s local extension storage (chrome.storage.local). They are not synced anywhere. Uninstalling the extension deletes them.
What GlossCue does not do
- No data is sold, and no data is shared except with the service providers above, for the purposes above.
- Data is not used for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness or lending, or for any purpose unrelated to translating subtitles and running your subscription.
The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Your choices
- Turn translation off at any time from the popup or with Alt+Shift+T. Nothing is sent while it is off.
- Sign out from the extension’s options page.
- To delete your account and the data linked to it, email the address below.

Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the extension’s release notes.
